Rain, snow, and storms to hit the island

Today's weather brings partly cloudy skies with occasional rain, especially in the west. Higher mountain peaks, like Troodos, may see snow or sleet.

Winds will be predominantly southwest to northwest, initially moderate to strong, reaching 4 to 5 on the Beaufort scale, but soon becoming strong, locally very strong, at 5 to 6 Beaufort. Seas will be rough to locally rough in the west and north, while slightly rough to rough in the south and east.

Temperatures will reach around 17 degrees inland, about 18 in the west and north coasts, around 19 in the south and east coasts, and 5 degrees in the higher mountains, with the possibility of frost.

Tonight, expect mostly cloudy skies with local rain and isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the western half of the island. Troodos and other high-altitude areas may experience snow or sleet.

Winds will be mainly southwest to northwest, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort initially but becoming moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort, locally on the coasts.

The sea will be slightly to moderately rough initially, becoming rough in the west and north. Temperatures will drop to 8 degrees inland, around 14 on the west coast, about 11 on the other coasts, and 1 degree in the higher mountains, with the possibility of icy conditions.

On Saturday, expect mostly cloudy weather with local rain and isolated thunderstorms. Snow or sleet is likely on the highest peaks, especially in Troodos. Improvement is expected early in the night. Sunday and Monday will see partly to mostly cloudy skies with occasional rain.

Temperature on Saturday will slightly drop, staying close to average climatological values, while Sunday will see a small rise. Monday is not expected to have significant temperature changes.
