A total of 9,096 appointment slots will become available on the vaccination portal for those aged 74 and over at 9am on Wednesday, the Health Ministry announced.
The Ministry said the island’s vaccination strategy prioritizes those who are most likely to become seriously ill and require hospital admission, with the elderly and vulnerable groups to get the jab first.
Last week, Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou if Cyprus’ vaccination plan sticks to schedule then the island will achieve herd immunity by June, by which time some 500,000 people will get the jab against coronavirus.
The Republic of Cyprus received its first batch of 7,200 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine on February 8, with a total of 70,000 doses of the jab expected to be delivered by the end of the month.
