Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has provoked Cypriot police over their offer to assist British authorities in taking action against him.
According to a report on Daily Mail, Robinson, currently vacationing in Cyprus, has been intensifying tensions in the UK with inflammatory and inaccurate social media posts.
The 41-year-old is facing legal issues after missing a court hearing last Monday, related to allegations of breaching an order prohibiting false statements about a Syrian refugee. A warrant for his arrest was issued, but a High Court judge delayed its execution until early October, allowing Robinson time to voluntarily attend the next hearing.
Cypriot police confirmed they are monitoring Robinson and are prepared to cooperate with British authorities if needed. "We are in contact with the British police, and if they require our assistance, we are ready to help," a police spokesperson said.
Robinson, known for his provocative social media presence, has used his time in Cyprus to post contentious content, including attacks on police and politicians, and false claims about violence involving Muslims. Despite his claims of not inciting disorder, British authorities are scrutinizing such posts.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Stephen Parkinson, warned that social media influencers fueling violence could face extradition, though he did not mention Robinson specifically. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper echoed this, stating that social media has exacerbated recent violence, which began after the murders of three children.
Meanwhile, a British man, Jordan Parlour, was jailed pending sentencing for inciting violence through Facebook posts. He is the first person charged in connection with the recent disorder in the UK.
