Two Greek men have been arrested in Thessaloniki in connection with the mafia-style murder of Limassol businessman Stavros Demosthenous on October 17. The men, 27-year-old second cousins originally from Georgia, were picked up by Greek police under European arrest warrants.
Authorities say the men were reportedly hired to carry out the killing, but it’s not yet clear if they actually pulled the trigger or were helping others.
Investigators are also looking into whether the men are linked to a group of Georgian criminals involved in murders in Greece, sometimes called the “Greek Mafia.” The suspected leader of this group is said to be fleeing to Dubai and may have connections to Demosthenous.
Quick recap: Demosthenous, a well-known Limassol businessman, was shot multiple times on October 17. Police have been working across Greece and Cyprus to track those behind the murder, leading to these arrests.
