Ukrainian soldiers target alleged Russian munitions store

Source: Business Insider

Newly-released footage shows Ukrainian troops creating a huge explosion by dropping what they said was a grenade on a hidden Russian ammunition store.

Ukraine's 68th brigade shared the footage on Tuesday, and said it showed one grenade hitting a Russian warehouse of anti-tank mines.

The video shows a drone dropping a small gray object onto a dense patch of trees, and then a massive explosion.

It then shows the apparent aftermath, with burnt trees, a crater in the ground, and a damaged armored vehicle.

You can watch the footage here:

The brigade said it intercepted Russians talking about the destruction and they described it as a "small nuclear explosion."

It also said a Russian combat vehicle was impacted by the blast.

Ukraine's land forces also shared the footage on Telegram, and said the warehouse was "destroyed."

Russia has laid dense minefields in a bid to frustrate Ukraine's counteroffensive effort, which started in June. Ukraine's defense minister said Russia has laid so many that it has made Ukraine "the most heavily mined country in the world."

The mines have killed and maimed Ukrainian soldiers, and in some cases, Ukrainian soldiers have left their advanced Western tanks to move forward through minefields on foot. Analysts say delays in allies sending weapons to Ukraine is what gave Russia the chance to build such extensive defenses.

It is not clear when the 68th brigade's footage was filmed, or in what part of Ukraine.

The brigade's last publicly-shared location was that it was in the village of Novoegorivka in the eastern Zaporizhzhia region at the end July, where it said it had regained some territory for Ukraine.
