Winds and showers expected this weekend

Thunderstorms and winds to impact Cyprus

Newsroom

A seasonal low-pressure system is affecting Cyprus, leading to variable weather conditions in the coming days, including occasional strong winds.

Today, most areas of the island will experience mostly clear skies, with periods of increased cloudiness, particularly in the western half. During the afternoon, developing clouds could bring isolated showers, mainly over the mountains, with a chance of rain in some areas of the eastern half of the island.

Winds will be mainly from the southwest to northwest, starting off light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort but will gradually strengthen to moderate and locally strong at 5 Beaufort. On the south coast, winds could temporarily reach very strong levels of 6 Beaufort. The sea conditions will range from slightly choppy to choppy. Temperatures are expected to reach around 36 degrees Celsius inland, 31 degrees on the west and southwest coasts, 33 degrees on other coasts, and 28 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tonight, the weather will be mostly clear with some localized low clouds, particularly in the west and north. Winds will remain from the southwest to northwest, generally light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will continue to be slightly choppy. Temperatures will drop to around 22 degrees Celsius inland, 24 degrees on the coast, and 16 degrees in the higher mountains.

For Friday through Sunday, expect periods of increased local cloudiness. Afternoon showers are likely, especially in the mountains and the eastern half of the island. Isolated thunderstorms are possible on Saturday and Sunday in these areas. Temperatures will stay consistent through the weekend, remaining near the average for this time of year.
