Newsroom

In a coordinated operation by the Drug Enforcement Unit, a quantity of approximately 3.2 kilograms of cannabis was located and seized yesterday afternoon.

Around 5 p.m. yesterday, members of the unit intercepted a car in the Larnaca area driven by a 28-year-old, with a 40-year-old passenger, both residents of Larnaca.

The 28-year-old driver attempted to flee, resulting in a collision with a bus and police vehicles, leading to the immobilization of his car.

Following a subsequent search, two nylon packages containing cannabis, weighing approximately 3.2 kilograms, were found inside the car's luggage compartment.

In possession of the 40-year-old passenger, two gas spray canisters and a baton were discovered.

Both the 28-year-old and the 40-year-old were initially arrested for offenses committed and subsequently detained based on court orders to facilitate further investigations.

Today, they are expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court for the issuance of detention orders.

The Drug Enforcement Unit (Larnaca Division) continues its investigations.
