Body found near Limassol General's helipad

Decomposed body found on hospital grounds believed to belong to missing elderly woman

A decomposed female body was found Tuesday night within the fenced area of Limassol General Hospital, with preliminary indications pointing to a woman who went missing last week.

According to Sigmalive, the body of an elderly woman was found in an advanced stage of decomposition on Tuesday night around 9pm inside a ditch within the fenced area of Limassol General Hospital.

The report said first indications matched the profile of a 79-year-old woman who went missing last week. Maria “Maroula” Kyriacou went missing last Thursday after she was last seen at her residence in Limassol at 8 o’clock that morning.

Missing woman had gone to hospital twice

But additional reports from other media outlets said Kyriacou had visited the hospital in the morning of August 1 and was released later in the day. She was then spotted lying on the ground near the town centre and was rushed to the Emergency Room until she was once again released from hospital on the same day.

After she failed to return home, her relatives filed a missing person complaint on Saturday.

Police rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area near the hospital’s helicopter landing platform while an autopsy on Wednesday failed to confirm the woman’s identity or cause of death.

Story has been updated to reflect autopsy results
