Turkish-Cypriot leader Ustel promises housing, stability in occupied Cyprus

Within a month, construction will commence on social housing projects for young people in the occupied areas of Morphou and Gerolakkos, according to "Prime Minister" Unal Ustel. Ustel made this announcement during an exclusive interview with the newspaper Kıbrıs, following his visit to the media group recently acquired by a Turkish-owned company.

According to the Press and Information Office (PIO), Ustel stated that the "parliament" recently "passed" all necessary "laws" to proceed with the social housing projects. "The foundations will be laid within a month, and the project will allow young people to remain in their homeland," he said, noting that construction will start in Morphou and Gerolakkos.

Ustel emphasized collaboration with the "motherland" Turkey, asserting their commitment to stability. "Unfinished projects are being completed one by one. From 2013 to 2022, short-lived governments were unable to implement these projects. Since 2022, we have completed the unfinished projects and taken measures to enhance the people's prosperity. We will maintain this structure until 2027," he said.

Ustel also announced his candidacy for the presidency of the National Unity Party (UBP) at the party's regular congress in September. "We work hand in hand with Turkey for the welfare of our people. The UBP base sees and understands this. After the congress, we will continue to serve our people while maintaining this stable structure," he added.
