The weekend scene in various parts of Cyprus, particularly in the provinces of Larnaca and Famagusta, was reminiscent of Venice. The torrential rains that began at dawn on Saturday and lasted until the early hours of Monday morning left images of watery "hell" and residents counting their losses. The severe weather caused flooding in homes, rivers in the streets, stranded citizens, and power outages, among other issues. The video making the rounds on the internet, in which the extent of the destruction can be seen from above, is typical.
