The Republic of Cyprus’ foreign ministry expressed profound sorrow for the tragic loss of life following extreme weather conditions in the United States, where dozens of people died while motorists were still trying to dig themselves out.
“Heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims,” a tweet from Nicosia said on Tuesday.
A heavy blizzard struck western New York over the Christmas weekend, killing tens of people, while local crews around Buffalo were struggling to dig out the snow-bound region from a once-in-a-lifetime fierce winter storm.
At least 60 lives have been lost due to inclement weather nationwide, according to US media.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the rescue teams and with the Government and People of the United States,” the Cypriot foreign ministry added.
