Cyprus has conveyed to Britain that it would be to everybody's benefit if the UK avoided a disorderly Brexit from the 28-member bloc.

Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides, who is in London for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, meet the UK Secretary for Exiting the European Union David Davis.

They discussed the progress that has been achieved in Brexit talks and the negotiations between the UK and the EU on their future trade relationship.

It would be to the benefit of all sides if the UK were to maintain as close a partnership as possible with the EU

Reliable sources said that Christodoulides reaffirmed Cyprus’ position that it would be to the benefit of all sides if the UK were to maintain as close a partnership as possible with the EU.

On the issue of securing the rights of Cypriots living and working within areas of the British military bases in Cyprus after Brexit, the Cyprus News Agency understands that it has been agreed by both countries to work in order to come up with an arrangement by the end of the coming month.

The two ministers expressed a mutual desire to maintain and enhance the strong bilateral ties as the UK prepares to leave the EU.
