An early morning earthquake shook Cyprus on Friday just off the coast of Larnaca, felt by people across the island and region.
Preliminary information from Cypriot official sources said underwater seismic activity registering 4.9 points on the Richter scale was recorded Friday early morning at 4:40am some 45km deep in the marine zone of Xylofafou and about 20 kilometers southwest of Paralimni.
State geologist Sylvana Pilidou said the quake was felt throughout the entire island, but it was felt the most in the districts of Larnaca and Famagusta.
No damages were reported while officials did not issue any coastal or tsunami warnings in the immediate aftermath.
The earthquake was reportedly felt in nearby countries including Israel, Turkey, Syria, and Lebanon.
