An announcement was made on Wednesday during an Info Day, co-organized by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), regarding the search for a National Secretary to lead and coordinate the upcoming information center called "EIT Community RIS Hub" in Cyprus.
The press release from the Research and Innovation Foundation highlights that the event, held successfully at the A.G. Leventis Gallery in Nicosia, provided representatives from enterprises, research institutions, and academic organizations with valuable insights into funding tools and support services offered by the EIT Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs). These partnerships focus on addressing major societal challenges like climate change and sustainable energy.
During the 'Info Day', Marton Herczeg, the Head of the Innovation Ecosystem Unit at EIT, officially announced the call for National Secretaries for the new RIS Hubs in Cyprus, Malta, Ukraine, and Montenegro.
The press release emphasizes that these hubs will serve as local resources, providing information and guidance to innovators about opportunities within the EIT community. They will also foster collaboration between leading businesses and academic/research institutions.
Herczeg expressed his hope to establish joint EIT hubs in 20 European countries, expanding pan-European innovation for a more competitive and sustainable future, with Cyprus, Malta, Montenegro, and Ukraine being just the beginning.
Furthermore, the new hubs are part of the EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS), which aims to bridge the innovation gap in Europe. They are expected to commence operations within 2023.
According to Theodoros Loukaidis, the Director General of RIF, the EIT plays a crucial role in Europe's new Innovation Agenda, enhancing the continent's innovation capacity, offering effective solutions to global challenges, and nurturing entrepreneurial talent.
