It's time to gear up for a weather adventure as we navigate through the atmospheric twists and turns coming your way. Here's the scoop on what Mother Nature has in store for us.
Right now, a gentle low-pressure system is holding court in the region, but brace yourselves, because a shift is on the horizon. As we move into the afternoon, low pressure is expected to swoop in and make its mark on the island.
Today's forecast? Picture a mostly cloudy canvas with a gradual buildup to isolated showers from the west. But hold tight, as these weather theatrics are set to intensify and spread across the entire island come the afternoon and evening hours, treating us to local rain showers and thunderstorms. And yes, hail might just be part of the spectacle.
Winds are set to play their part, initially blowing in from the northeast to southeast at a moderate to strong pace, about 4 to 5 on the Beaufort scale. By the afternoon, expect a shift to southeasterly and southern winds of the same intensity. The sea? A bit choppy to turbulent.
Temperature-wise, get ready for around 19 degrees Celsius inland, about 20 degrees along the coasts, and approximately 9 degrees in the higher mountainous regions.
As night falls, the weather will maintain its dramatic flair with mostly cloudy skies and the chance of local rain showers and isolated thunderstorms. Brace yourselves, as hail might join the party, and up in the Troodos mountain peaks, snow or sleet could make a surprise appearance. Winds will predominantly blow from the southwest to northwest, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 on the Beaufort scale, and in the pre-frontal coastal areas, expect moderate 4 Beaufort winds. The sea remains generally turbulent.
Temperatures will take a dip to around 8 degrees Celsius inland, about 13 degrees in the south and east coasts, around 15 degrees in the west and north coasts, and a chilly 4 degrees in the higher mountainous areas.
Heading into Friday, the weather will continue its intermittent cloudiness, with localized rain showers and isolated thunderstorms, especially along the coastal regions. Troodos might get a touch of snow or sleet. As we roll into the weekend, Saturday starts off partially cloudy, with sporadic clouds, and localized showers expected. Gradually, conditions are set to improve.
Come Sunday, Christmas Eve, we're in for a treat with mainly clear skies overhead.
Temperature-wise, Friday will keep things steady, maintaining the same levels as Thursday. However, as we move into the weekend, expect a rise in temperatures, settling comfortably above the seasonal averages.
So, buckle up, islanders! It's a weather rollercoaster with rain, snow, and a clear finale in the forecast. Stay tuned for updates, and let's ride this atmospheric adventure together!
