A Greek Cypriot male driver was killed in a car accident on Thursday while driving in the north along a northwestern coastal highway.

According to Turkish Cypriot media, a car with a Greek Cypriot licence plate was moving eastbound on a highway from Lefka/Lefke towards Morphou/Guzelyurt when it collided head-on with a westbound truck under circumstances pending investigation.

Media reports said the Greek Cypriot driver was killed instantly, while the truck driver, described as a Turkish Cypriot male, was rushed to the Emergency Room.

Preliminary reports said the Greek Cypriot driver, whose name is not being published on Knews at this time, crossed into the opposite lane, resulting in a head-on collision with a heavy truck that was registered in the north.

Turkish Cypriot police said the accident was still under investigation, while Greek Cypriot police told Knews efforts were being made to notify the family of the driver in the south.
