The Council of Ministers, in its session on June 21, 2023, approved the Amendment of the Regulations on Petroleum Stations from 1972 to 1999, to allow for the installation and use of electric vehicle charging points at petrol stations, as part of the government's policy for transitioning to green energy.
According to a written statement by the Deputy Government Spokesperson, Ms. Doxa Komodromou, regarding the decision of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Interior conducted an investigation into the lawful placement of charging points at petrol stations, and held a public consultation on a draft prepared by the Technical Services - Administration of the Ministry of Interior, for the revision of the legislative framework governing the operation of petrol stations.
According to the announcement, the revision of the existing legislative framework aims to address potential issues that may arise from the installation of alternative fuel infrastructure that contributes to the promotion of electric mobility in existing or new petrol stations, allowing for the installation and use of electric vehicle charging points.
Furthermore, it is stated that this revision was considered substantial and necessary, as the State, through the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, promotes the use of electric energy as a future fuel, enabling consumers to charge their vehicles inaccessible public and private parking areas.
