Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited Egypt, marking the first trip by an Iranian foreign minister to Cairo since 2013.
The visit comes as Iran steps up diplomatic efforts to ease regional tensions, amid the prospect of Israeli retaliation for Iranian missile strikes on Israel earlier in October.
This is the first time an Iranian diplomatic leader has visited Egypt since January 2013.
During talks in Cairo, Araghchi and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called for de-escalation in the region. According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, the discussions focused on strengthening efforts toward ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon.
Araghchi’s regional tour also included stops in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq, Oman, and Turkey.
