A kindergarten in Larnaca went up in flames early Monday morning, with police pointing to a financial dispute as the reason behind the arson attack.

Residents in Larnaca’s Faneromeni area noticed a fire in a local kindergarten shortly after midnight and notified the police, according to local reports.

Fire fighters rushed to the scene but the fire had destroyed the school before it could be contained.

A car belonging to the owner’s wife was also the target of an attack, where shots had been fired back in June

A police officer said that preliminary tests showed the fire was the result of arson.

It was later established that a car belonging to the owner’s wife was also the target of an attack, where shots had been fired back in June.

Investigators are evaluating statements by the kindergarten’s owner who told police he had financial disputes with people overseas.

Crime scene investigators took fingerprints and collected a number of items as potential evidence, according to reports.

Police are investigating the case.
