A "missing" sea turtle from Greece, aged 104, was recently spotted off the coast of Alexandria by Egyptian authorities.
The turtle, measuring one meter in length and weighing 40 kilograms, had identification tags on its front flippers containing information about its age.
As it turned out, the turtle belongs to the Archelon Sea Turtle Rescue Center in Greece, is 104 years old, and carries the identification code 13159.
According to ERT, the Environmental Affairs Agency in Alexandria sent the turtle to the Turtle Protection Center of Egypt’s Ministry of Environment in Port Said for care before releasing it and initiating communication with Greece for its return.
The Egyptian Ministry of Environment stated that the turtle—an endangered species in the Mediterranean—was in good health.
It was transferred to the turtle rescue center at the Ashtoum El Gamil reserve for examination, care, and necessary measures in accordance with international agreements.
