A 28-year-old man got up to three years suspended sentence after he was found guilty on child porn charges, with the court saying the content in his possession was ‘disgusting’.
The Nicosia Criminal Court handed down the sentence on Wednesday, ranging from 15 months up to three years of suspended sentence.
The content found in the man’s possession was described as a Level 4, depicting penetrative sexual activity between adults and children
The content found in the man’s possession included 4576 digital photos and three videos, described as a Level 4 gross assault depicting penetrative sexual activity between adults and children.
The judge said the offenses committed by the 28-year-old man were on the rise in general, prompting a harsher sentence that would serve as a deterrent for others.
The court also noted that the internet has been exacerbating the phenomenon by making access to child porn online as lot easier.
The decision came just months after the Supreme Court set a new precedent for longer sentences in child pornography cases, following revelations that the problem is getting bigger and some content in materials seized by police was shockingly abhorrent.
