Minor seismic activity at 2.4 took place north of Limassol Thursday morning

A minor earthquake was felt in Limassol on Thursday, with officials saying it took place early in the morning.

According to local officials, the epicenter of the seismic activity at 5:43am local time was 5 kilometres north of Limassol. The earthquake was felt throughout the entire city, some 8 kilometres deep with a magnitude of 2.4 on the Richter scale.

Specific details were not made available by the US Geological Survey Department due to an ongoing partial shutdown of the American federal government over budget issues.
