Nouris: 60-100 immigrants pass through the green line every day

From January 2021 to October 2021 the number of new asylum seekers amounts to 10,082 - Checks will be intensified

According to the Minister of Interior, Nikos Nouris, 60 to 100 illegal immigrants and asylum seekers cross the green line every day.

At the same time, speaking in the context of the presentation of the Ministry's Budget for 2022, Mr. Nouris noted that from January 2021 until October 2021 the number of new asylum seekers has risen to 10,082.  Breaking the record number of 10,082, the top 10 countries with new asylum applications: 2,489 come from Syria, 1,067 from Nigeria, 1,053 from Congo, 854 from India, 832 from Pakistan, 617 from Bangladesh, 544 from Cameroon , from Nepal 491, from Somalia 485, from Sierra L. 336 and from "other countries" 1,314 persons.

According to the Minister, asylum seekers in 2019 had increased by 506% compared to 2015.  In 2020, however, there is a decrease which is reflected in the restrictive measures of the pandemic.

Speaking before parliament, the Minister of Interior underlined that controls will be intensified and that this would be discussed during a Cabinet meeting in the coming days.
