President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, made it clear that the country has zero tolerance for corruption and match-fixing in sports during the opening of the National School of Ethics at the Presidential Palace on Monday.

He praised the Committee of Ethics and Sport Safeguarding for its efforts in setting up the school, highlighting how their work is recognized by the public. Earlier that day, Christodoulides met with the Minister of Justice and the Chief of Police to discuss corruption in sports and urged for faster progress in ongoing investigations.

“Our focus is on ensuring clean, safe, and enjoyable sporting events for everyone—free from violence and corruption,” the President said. He also emphasized that the government is taking steps to create a positive sports environment that supports athletes and society as a whole.

Christodoulides called on everyone involved to take responsibility in this effort, stressing that a sports culture free from corruption is essential for the well-being and success of athletes and the community.
