Prisoner breaks out of mental hospital in the north

Manhunt underway as Turkish Cypriot police release photo of a prisoner on the run

Turkish Cypriot police have released the photo of a male prisoner who escaped while being detained at a mental health facility in the north.

According to reports, 32-year-old Soner Aydas, was being held in a central prison location when officials transferred him to a psychiatric hospital.

On Monday morning, around 4am, Aydas managed to escape and run away passing two guards. Knews understands the prisoner had been wearing leg cuffs during the transfer.

Officials are asking the public to be aware of the escape and contact authorities if they have any information on Aydas’ whereabouts.
