A low pressure system is about to move in over Cyprus as the island gets ready to ring in the new year, but rain over the next couple of days will be replaced with sunshine on New Year’s Day.
Wednesday skies will be partly cloudy as a high pressure is still affecting the island, with low chances of rain in the north and west and possible snowfall in Troodos.
Moderate winds are expected throughout the day with daytime highs reaching 19 degrees Celsius inland and in coastal regions, while it will be 9 high up in the mountains.
Evening skies will be partly cloudy and will develop to mostly cloudy with chances of showers or thunderstorms, while temperature lows will drop to 7 degrees inland, around 11 along the coast, while it will be 2 higher up where frost is expected to form overnight.
Thursday and daytimg Friday on New Year’s Eve will be mostly cloudy with periods of local showers and isolated thunderstorms.
But weather is expected to clear by Friday evening just in time to ring in the New Year at midnight, with Saturday skies expected to be mostly clear but still with clouds forming at times.
Temperatures on New Year’s Day will rise slightly.
The last measurement of the Troodos Square snow gauge was 6.5 inches, as recorded at 5am on Wednesday.
