Remembering 9/11, 22 years on

New York City plans memorial tributes throughout the day honoring the resilience and unity shown by victims and survivors

Newsroom

On the 22nd anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, New York City is set to honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 lives lost with a series of memorial events throughout the city.

These events serve as a poignant reminder of the tragic day when the World Trade Center towers were struck by hijacked planes, the Pentagon was attacked, and Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania. The attacks were a defining moment in modern history, leading to significant changes in security, foreign policy, and international relations.

New York City, home to the World Trade Center, will pay tribute to the victims with solemn ceremonies and memorial services. Families, survivors, and first responders will gather at Ground Zero, where the Twin Towers once stood, to remember their loved ones and the heroes who risked their lives in the aftermath of the attacks.

The 9/11 Memorial and Museum, located at the World Trade Center site, will host a special commemoration, providing a space for reflection and remembrance. The annual Tribute in Light, a powerful display of twin beams of light symbolizing the fallen towers, will once again pierce the night sky.  Meanwhile, 2 victims have just been identified 22 years on.

As the city remembers the events of that fateful day, it also acknowledges the resilience and unity that emerged from the tragedy. New York City continues to stand as a symbol of strength and solidarity in the face of adversity.

The anniversary events remind us all of the importance of honoring the past, cherishing the present, and working toward a better, more peaceful future.
