The Cyprus Police are urging the public to exercise caution following reports of a new scam involving fraudulent emails related to package deliveries. These messages aim to steal money and personal information from citizens.
According to the Cybercrime Unit at the Police Headquarters, the scam emails claim recipients must pay delivery fees for packages supposedly sent to them before the Cyprus Post can complete the delivery. The emails include a link that recipients are encouraged to click in order to arrange payment.
Authorities have clarified that these emails are not from the Cyprus Post. Citizens receiving such messages are advised to be vigilant and refrain from clicking on the links, as doing so may lead to unauthorized access to their bank accounts and personal data.
For individuals awaiting package deliveries, it is recommended that they verify the status of their items either by contacting the seller or shipper directly or by reaching out to the courier service responsible for the delivery.
The public can identify fraudulent messages by checking the following points:
1. The emails do not link to the official website of the Cyprus Post: [cypruspost.post](https://www.cypruspost.post).
2. The Cyprus Post will not return or deny delivery of an item if any duties or taxes have not been paid.
3. The messages do not direct payments to the JCC Smart online payment platform, instead leading to other web addresses.
For further advice on how to protect against such scams, citizens can visit the Cyprus Post website at the following link: [Spam Alert](https://www.cypruspost.post/el/news/spam-alert).
