Two individuals were arrested in Ayia Napa for drug possession, and another two were arrested for illegal employment during an operation conducted by ADE Famagusta, the Narcotics and Money Laundering Unit (MMAD), and the Police Immigration Service (YKAN) Famagusta from July 12-15. Additionally, three individuals residing illegally in the Republic were detained pending deportation orders.

According to Steve Theodoulou, spokesperson for the Famagusta Police Directorate, the operation aimed to enhance prevention and combat serious and organized crime, while bolstering citizen security, trust, and protection. It focused on checking residency and employment legality within the Republic, specifically targeting Ayia Napa in collaboration with the aforementioned units.

The operation included inspections of 46 premises and resulted in 25 vehicle arrests. Mr. Theodoulou reported that two individuals were arrested for possession of Class A and B controlled substances, and two for illegal employment. Additionally, three individuals illegally residing in the Republic were detained pending deportation.

Responding to concerns about nuisance from recreational centers, the Organized Crime and Prevention Unit (OPE) of Famagusta and the Ayia Napa Police Station conducted checks, resulting in five premises being cited for a total of 34 violations. These included operating leisure centers without licenses from the Deputy Ministry of Tourism or the local municipal authority, as well as lacking permits for selling alcoholic beverages and broadcasting sound.

Mr. Theodoulou emphasized that coordinated efforts by the Famagusta Police Directorate to prevent and combat crime will continue throughout the summer months.
