Newsroom

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected pound towns and villages in Cyprus Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, with weather officials issuing a yellow alert for storms and floods.

A low barometric pressure is affecting the area over Cyprus. According to a weather alert issued on Tuesday through Wednesday at 5pm, rain accumulation is expected to exceed 55 millimeters within 24 hours.

Strong winds are also expected late at night, with rain showers and isolated thunderstorms expected in many local areas. Snow or sleet is expected in the highest peaks on the Troodos mountains.

The storms are expected to recede by Thursday, when weather will be mostly clear but also with periods of cloudy skies.
