Today, the President of the Republic went on to sign the sex education legislation that was approved by the Parliament.

He considered the following factors despite not contesting the accuracy of the Attorney General's assessment:

The Republic of Cyprus is bound contractually by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Abuse, both of which expressly require the State to inform children about the dangers of sexual abuse and exploitation as part of their primary and secondary education.

That the aforementioned legislation satisfies the Republic's obligations under the aforementioned contracts, without in any way limiting the ability of the Minister of Education to plan, and establish the curriculum and/or timetable.

The President of the Republic also proceeded to sign the legislation extending the period of suspension of foreclosed home sales.
