Strong winds return along with rain expected to last through the weekend

A low pressure system is expected Thursday afternoon over Cyprus, with chances of showers and thunderstorms that could last through the weekend.

Thursday skies will be mostly cloudy with local showers while in the afternoon there are high chances of isolated thunderstorms, as well as snow or sleet high up in the Troodos Mountains.

Overall temperatures are expected to hold steady with a slight drop Friday and slight rise Saturday, close to normal averages for this time of the year

Winds will be blowing from the northeast and east and are expected to range from strong in the early part of the day to very strong later in the afternoon.

Temperature highs are expected to reach 16° degrees Celsius in the interior and along the coast, while it will be 8 degrees up in the mountains.

Evening weather will remain mostly cloudy with very strong winds while showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to continue along with snow or sleet high up in the Troodos.

Temperature lows are expected to register at 8 degrees inland, in the north, and out west, around 11 in all other coastal regions, and 3 degrees in the mountains where frost is also expected to form.

Friday skies will be mostly cloudy with high chances of local showers and isolated thunderstorms, while conditions are expected to improve gradually later in the day. Snow or sleet is expected high up in Troodos.

Weekend weather will remain partly cloudy with local showers and low chances of snow high up in the mountains.

Overall temperatures are expected to hold steady with a slight drop on Friday and a slight rise on Saturday, with levels close to the normal averages for this time of the year.

The last measurement of the Troodos Square snow gauge was 30 inches, as recorded at 5am on Thursday.
