Eight buses were destroyed in a fire on Monday in Larnaca with authorities pointing to arson based on early indications.

According to police, authorities were notified very early Monday morning, around 3:10am, regarding a fire at a parking lot of a private bus company in Aradippou.

Fire trucks rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish all fires, while Larnaca police blocked the road and started an investigation.

Seven full-size buses and a minivan were reportedly destroyed in the fire, while preliminary indications pointed to arson.

Additional reports said the incident took place in the parking lot of Kapnos & Sons Transport on Eleftherias Avenue in Aradippou, Larnaca district, where its subsidiary Kapnos Airport Shuttle parks a number of its vehicles.

Reports said police got their hands on security camera footage in connection with the incident. The area was reportedly being monitored through CCTV while the company was said to have an insurance policy on the buses.

Kapnos later said the shuttle service would remain on schedule and would not be affected by the incident.
