Yellow warning for island's interior as temps reach 41, chances of rain inland and mountains

A low pressure is affecting areas over Cyprus with chances of local showers, while a heat advisory went into effect due to extreme high temperatures in the interior.

Weather officials have issued a yellow warning effective Sunday from 11am until 5pm, citing extreme high temperatures reaching 41 degrees Celsius in the interior.

Sunday weather is expected to remain mostly clear but occasional afternoon clouds forming in the interior and in the mountains could produce local showers and possibly thunderstorms.

Strong winds are expected along the coast with officials warning that wind intensity along the southern coastline could reach 6 points on the Beaufort scale.

Temperature highs will reach 41 degrees Celsius in the interior, 31 in the west, 33 in all other coastal regions, while it will be 31 high up in the mountains.

Evening weather will remain mostly clear with foggy and cloudy skies expected overnight in local areas. Temperature lows will drop to 22 degrees in the interior as well as east, northeast, and north, around 21 in all other coastal regions, while it will be 19 high up in the mountains.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are also expected on Monday with slightly lower temperatures, while rain chances will continue through Thursday.
