Strong winds expected as temperatures rise to 31°C

Cyprus braces for cloudy skies, strong winds, and rising temperatures

Newsroom

Cloudy skies and strong winds are expected today, with temperatures forecasted to reach 31°C.

A weak low-pressure system and a strong westerly air current are temporarily affecting the area.

Increased cloud cover will develop over the western half of the island, spreading to other areas later in the day. Winds will be mainly southwest to northwest, ranging from moderate to strong (Beaufort 4-5), with very strong winds (Beaufort 6) expected along the southern coast. The sea will range from slightly choppy to rough, with turbulent conditions in the west and north. Inland temperatures will reach around 31°C, with the southeast and east coasts experiencing similar conditions. Western, southwestern, and northern coasts will see highs of around 29°C, while the higher mountains will be cooler at 22°C.

Tonight, clouds will increase, particularly in the west, north, and mountainous areas. Winds will ease, shifting from moderate to strong (Beaufort 4-5) to light to moderate (Beaufort 3-4). The sea will remain somewhat turbulent in the west and north, while calmer conditions are expected elsewhere. Overnight temperatures will drop to 18°C inland, 22°C along the west and north coasts, 20°C on the rest of the coastlines, and 10°C in the higher mountains.

The weather on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will generally be clear, although some local cloud cover may appear at times. Temperatures will rise slightly, remaining near seasonal averages through Thursday.
