Sunny start with afternoon showers possible

Sun, scattered storms, and climbing temperatures

Newsroom

Cyprus is set for a mix of clear skies and some scattered showers today. The morning will start off mostly sunny, with a few low clouds here and there. By midday, expect clouds to build up in certain areas, bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms, especially in the mountains and some inland regions. There could even be a bit of hail in those storms.

Winds will generally blow from the southwest to northwest, starting light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and picking up to moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort on the south and east coasts. The sea will be a bit choppy. Temperatures will reach around 39°C inland, 32°C on the southwest and west coasts, 34°C on the other coastal areas, and 29°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight, it will stay mostly clear, though the coast might see some low clouds. Later in the night and early morning, patchy fog or mist could form, especially inland and in the southeast. Winds will shift to blow from the southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, easing to light at 3 Beaufort. The sea will calm down a bit. Overnight temperatures will drop to around 24°C inland and on the coast, and 19°C in the higher mountains.

Looking ahead, Wednesday will be mostly clear, though clouds will increase in the afternoon, possibly bringing isolated showers, mainly in the mountains. Thursday should be clear all day. By Friday, most of the island will stay clear, but afternoon clouds could bring isolated rain in the mountains.

Temperatures are expected to stay fairly steady on Wednesday, but will gradually rise through Friday, remaining above the seasonal average.
