Suspect nabbed in high-stakes cable heist

Episkopi police station is ramping up investigation

Newsroom

Authorities have cracked down on a brazen cable theft operation, culminating in the arrest of a 33-year-old suspect from Limassol, thrusting the sleepy village of Kandou into the spotlight of criminal intrigue.

The daring caper, which unfolded under the cover of darkness, saw the clandestine removal of approximately 1,400 meters of precious copper cables, with a street value pegged at a staggering €2,800, according to reports filed by a vigilant technician from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC).

But the audacity didn't end there. In a move reminiscent of a Hollywood heist, the perpetrator ruthlessly severed six EAC poles, leaving a trail of destruction and racking up an eye-watering estimated damage tally of €4,150.

As the dust settles, the Episkopi Police Station is ramping up its investigation, determined to unravel the threads of this electrifying crime spree and bring all involved to justice.
