Temperatures expected to reach 40°C

Yellow weather warning issued

Newsroom

The Department of Meteorology issued a yellow weather warning on Tuesday, predicting temperatures will soar to 40°C in the interior on Wednesday. The warning, which came into effect at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, will remain in place until 4 p.m. today.

A seasonal low-pressure system is influencing the region. Most of the island will experience clear skies, though some areas may see occasional low clouds. In the mountainous regions, cloud development in the afternoon could result in isolated showers. Winds will primarily blow from the southwest to northwest, starting off light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. However, they are expected to strengthen, reaching 4 to 5 Beaufort, and up to 5 to 6 Beaufort along the southwest coast. The sea will become progressively choppy, with turbulent conditions expected along most coasts by afternoon.

Temperatures will peak around 40°C inland, with coastal areas ranging between 32°C and 34°C. In the higher mountains, temperatures will reach about 31°C.

The weather will remain mostly clear tonight, with an increase in low cloud cover, especially in the west and north. Fog may develop in the early morning hours, particularly in southeastern areas. Winds will weaken, shifting to a katabatic pattern at 3 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to slightly turbulent in the east and south, but more unsettled in the west and north. Overnight temperatures will drop to around 21°C inland, 23°C along the coast, and 18°C in the mountains.

Partly cloudy skies are expected, with a chance of isolated showers in the mountains and possibly inland during the afternoon. Temperatures will decrease, aligning with seasonal averages.
