A TikToker’s bedroom lamp turned out to be more suitable for a kitchen table.
On Sept. 2, TikTok user @froginahatgirl posted a video revealing that a croissant-shaped lamp purchased from Temu was actually a real pastry encased in resin. The video quickly went viral, drawing millions of views and reactions across social media platforms.
In the video, the TikToker explained that she came home from work one day to find ants crawling underneath the lamp. Upon closer inspection, she noticed the ants entering small holes in the surface. Curiosity piqued, she poked a hole and suspected the lamp might be made from a real croissant.
“I poked a bigger hole and it, like, low-key looks like a croissant under there,” she said.
To confirm her suspicion, she broke the lamp in half and discovered flaky layers inside, resembling the texture of an actual croissant. In disbelief, she said, “That looks like pastry. Look at the crumbs. What the actual f---, Temu?”
In a final test, she tasted a piece of the lamp’s interior and concluded, “It’s literally f---ing food.”
The video amassed over 11.9 million views on TikTok, with an additional post on X reaching more than 9.8 million views. Comments poured in across social platforms, with many users making light of the situation. One commenter joked, “R u ok babe? You barely touched your TEMU croissant lamp.”
Though the discovery shocked many, using real bread in decorative items isn’t unheard of. Japanese designer Yukiko Morita’s “Pampshades” are crafted from actual loaves of bread, including croissants, coated in antibacterial and antifungal solutions to prevent decay.
While Temu has yet to respond to the incident, the viral moment has sparked widespread curiosity about unconventional decor choices.
