Police in Paphos have arrested a 37-year-old on multiple charges, including assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, causing alarm, and impersonation.

The incident unfolded on Thursday evening at approximately 6:15 p.m. at Paphos Airport. According to Assistant Police Operations Manager Michael Nicolaou, a woman of African origin approached the departures area and presented what appeared to be a genuine French ID card. However, upon closer inspection, officers noticed the photograph on the card did not match the individual presenting it.

When questioned, the woman reportedly became uncooperative, causing a scene that alarmed those nearby. Nicolaou stated that the suspect pushed a police officer during the interaction, prompting her immediate arrest for assault and resisting lawful arrest.

Further investigation revealed that the woman, a 37-year-old political asylum seeker, was not the person depicted in the identification document. She was subsequently charged with impersonation as well.

Authorities are continuing their investigations into the case.
