A woman in Larnaca has been arrested following allegations that she was holding captive another senior citizen against her will and robbing her over six months, just after they two struck up a friendship.
According to police, a 66-year-old woman has filed a report alleging that a 54-year-woman was holding her captive from October 2018 through late March this year in the suspect’s apartment, where the woman went for computer advice.
Sources told Knews the detained woman denies any wrongdoing and further maintains that the two platonic friends went together out in public
The two women, described as local Greek Cypriots, struck up a friendship back in September 2018. A month later the suspect invited the complainant into her home, according to the complaint, where she allegedly struck her in one incident and abused her at other times.
The suspect also took the woman to a local ATM on occasions, where the 66-year-old would withdraw money from her bank account, while the 54-year-old would take the cash according to the allegations.
Sources told Knews the detained woman denies any wrongdoing and further maintains that the two platonic friends went together out in public, with at least some camera footage showing the two acquaintances inside a store.
But the complainant is accusing her of multiple crimes, as investigators are still evaluating the case and trying to get to the bottom of it.
The 54-year-old woman could face multiple charges including kidnapping, false imprisonment, causing grievous bodily harm, common assault, threat of violence, and robbery.
