The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow warning for extreme maximum temperatures, effective from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
The temperature in the interior regions of Cyprus is forecasted to reach around 40 degrees Celsius, while the higher mountain areas are expected to see temperatures of up to 33 degrees Celsius.
Seasonal low pressure is affecting the area.
After the dissipation of local sparse fog and low clouds in the morning, the weather will become mostly clear. By the afternoon, cloud cover will increase in the mountainous regions. Winds will primarily blow from the southwest to northwest at speeds of 3 to 4 Beaufort, occasionally reaching 4 to 5 Beaufort on the windward coast. The sea will be slightly rough. Temperatures will climb to around 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) in the interior, 32 degrees Celsius (90 degrees Fahrenheit) on the west coast, 34 degrees Celsius (93 degrees Fahrenheit) on the other coastal areas, and 33 degrees Celsius (91 degrees Fahrenheit) in the higher mountains.
Tonight, the weather will remain mostly clear, although low clouds will form in coastal areas. Sparse fog and low cloud cover may appear in the southeast during the early morning hours. Winds will shift to northwest and northeast at 3 Beaufort, and the sea will be calm to slightly turbulent. The temperature will drop to around 23 degrees Celsius (73 degrees Fahrenheit) in the interior and higher mountains, and 24 degrees Celsius (75 degrees Fahrenheit) along the coast.
Thursday and Friday: The weather will continue to be mostly clear.
Saturday: Increased cloud cover in the afternoon could bring isolated rain showers or storms, particularly in the highlands and interior.
Temperatures will remain steady until Friday, with a slight drop expected on Saturday, bringing them close to or slightly above the average climate values.
Residents are advised to take precautions against the high temperatures, especially during the hours of the yellow warning.
