A young woman was killed in Larnaca on Tuesday after her brother shot her in the head, with police later arresting him on manslaughter charges.

According to the Cyprus News Agency, a 21-year-old woman was at her residence in Larnaca’s Klavdia community when she was shot in the head under circumstances still pending investigation.
The incident took place around 5:50pm when the perpetrator, the victim’s 23-year-old brother, shot his sister in the head using a G3 military rifle that had been issued to him while being on army reserve.
Shortly after 8pm police officers arrested the brother, who told investigators he shot his sister by accident. He is being held on suspicion of manslaughter accordintg to CNA.

Additional reports said the suspect reportedly told police he had gone to the army earlier on Tuesday, with local media speculating he might have been cleaning his rifle when it accidently went off.
Police said they were not ruling anything out during the preliminary phase of the investigation.
Reports also said the mother of the siblings witnessed the incident, which took place at the victim’s residence right next to her parental home.
