An assistant principal at a Limassol public school was arrested on Tuesday following a physical assault incident that took place in front of young students.
According to local media, a female assistant principal was having a heated exchange with another female educator outside a classroom, when another teacher tried to call for calm.
Reports said the assistant principal reacted by verbally assaulting the intervening teacher and later hitting her, causing contusions in various parts of her body.
Police officers who rushed to the elementary school briefly detained the 48-year-old assistant principal, who was later released from custody.
Local media said disagreement over school administration issues preceded the heated exchange and alleged physical assault, which took place in front of young pupils.
Both police and the education ministry have launched separate investigations over the incident.
