Cyprus' online legal system still facing problems after fixes

Cyprus moves forward with data center relocation, Innovation Minister confirms

The gradual relocation of state data center servers to fully compliant and secure facilities will begin before the end of the year, according to Deputy Minister of Innovation, Research, and Digital Policy Nikodimos Damianou. In an interview with “Kathimerini,” Damianou noted that all corrective actions have been completed to address significant issues and gaps identified during a comprehensive reassessment of the eJustice system. However, early results from subsequent evaluations are not encouraging for the system’s future trajectory.

When asked about the progress toward a modern digital state, Damianou acknowledged the complexity and multi-dimensional nature of the goal. "Technological advancements require continuous action and planning. As a state, we must leverage these developments to implement technological solutions flexibly and effectively," he said. He emphasized that this effort is not a finite project but an ongoing process aimed at building a fully integrated digital state mechanism and a dynamic digital ecosystem that attracts investment in technology and innovation.

The government has prioritized digital transition, recognizing its broad impact on Cypriot society and economy. Recent progress is reflected in the European Digital Decade Report, which presents an encouraging outlook for Cyprus, placing it among the countries on track to achieve the set targets. Nevertheless, Damianou urged caution, stating, "We must remain grounded and acknowledge that we have a long way to go before claiming success."
