Newly elected President Nikos Christodoulides and outgoing President Nicos Anastasiades were received on Tuesday morning by House President Annita Demetriou at her office, before proceeding to the plenary chamber for the investiture ceremony of the new President.
Welcoming the new President, the House President assured him that the parliament will always be by his side and will cooperate with him for the benefit of Cyprus and its citizens.
Christodoulides thanked Demetriou, assured her that they will cooperate for the benefit of the country and said he looked forward to cooperating with the Parliament.
Demetriou also thanked the outgoing President Nicos Anastasiades for everything he has offered, as well as for the collaboration they had.
President Anastasiades thanked Demetriou and the House of Representatives, which as he said has served for 32 years.
He added that he will always remember the experience he gained in parliament, the positive and the negative experiences.
Anastasides congratulated warmly the newly elected President "the beloved Nikos Christodoulides, my partner Nikos Christodoulides" and wished the new members of the Government every success, since as he said that with every success of the Government, in cooperation with the Parliament, there will be better days for Cyprus.
He warmly thanked the Parliament because, as he said, in the decade he has served as President of the Republic, “without the support of all the political parties, there would not have been the good outcomes recorded”.
Demetriou assured Anastasiades that the Parliament will continue the cooperation with the new President of the Republic and said that the Parliament will continue to fulfill its role, through partnerships, and building for the benefit of the country.
"What the people need is hope and hope comes through cooperation and mutual understanding", concluded the outgoing President of the Republic.
Demetriou offered President Anastasiades, as a farewell gift, the emblem of the House of Representatives.
