A female driver has been arrested in connection with two hit and runs, with reports saying the suspect behind the wheel had too much to drink.

According to police, a 34-year-old woman was detained for questioning on Sunday evening after she was involved in two accidents in Limassol.

The suspect was driving on Gladstonos Street on Sunday evening around 7:20pm when she rear-ended a parked car belonging to a 45-year-old woman.

A final measurement registered 142, which meant the suspect had been driving under the influence with six times the legal limit of 22mcg

The driver fled the scene, according to an official report, and continued to drive on Celal Bayar street, where she collided with a second vehicle, described as a van driven by a 48-year-old man.

Police said the female suspect attempted to flee the scene of the second accident but her vehicle came to a stop after a short distance due to mechanical failure.

Police officers who arrested the woman at the scene administered an initial breathalyzer test, which showed 163 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath. A final measurement registered 142, which meant the suspect had been driving under the influence with six times the legal limit of 22mcg.

Police did not say whether the woman would appear for a remand hearing on Monday.
