Newsroom

A blaze ignited on Wednesday afternoon in an abandoned cinema located within a Turkish Cypriot neighborhood in the Limassol District, prompting a rapid response from the Fire Service and raising concerns among local residents.

Andreas Kettis, spokesperson for the Fire Service, confirmed that emergency crews swiftly deployed four fire trucks to the scene, including a specialized vehicle equipped with a telescopic arm, to combat the flames. Despite efforts to contain the inferno, the cinema's roof succumbed to the fire's intensity, collapsing under the relentless heat.

While nearby structures were spared from direct harm, a two-storey building adjacent to the cinema bore the brunt of the blaze, sustaining extensive damage as the flames spread through its single masonry construction. Quick action by authorities ensured the safe evacuation of occupants from the affected area, mitigating the risk to human life.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with officials meticulously examining the scene to ascertain the origin and circumstances surrounding the incident. As the community grapples with the aftermath, efforts to restore normalcy and address safety concerns are underway, underscoring the importance of vigilance and preparedness in the face of unforeseen emergencies.
