Six men have been arrested and more could soon be detained after a large-scale police operation uncovered some 100 kilos of cannabis in Limassol.
Three Greek Cypriots and three foreign nationals were scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday to be remanded on drug related charges, after some 40 boxes were found to contain a large quantity of cannabis, estimated by some sources to be around 100 kilos.
Law enforcement officers from the drug squad had their eye on a container at Limassol port that arrived on Friday from overseas. A surveillance operation was then set up to follow the shipment to its final destination, which turned out to be Ypsonas where four of the six suspects were seen unloading boxes.
State police in collaboration with law enforcement on the British Bases jointly detained the four suspects and proceeded to inspect the illegal drugs, estimated to be around 100 kilos worth of cocaine.
The country where the container was shipped out was not immediately made known to the media, while more arrests were said to be forthcoming.
