A clerk at the Limassol District Administration office, who is being accused of pocketing money without issuing receipts, is expected to appear in court Wednesday for her remand hearing.
Police arrested a 62-year-old woman on Tuesday late at night on embezzlement charges, after an initial audit showed that she appeared to have misappropriated funds between March 1 and April 16 to the tune of €15,000.
Media reports said the woman was tasked with collecting money but failed to record the amounts properly.
Advanced auditing has been ordered to show the extent to which the clerk may have misappropriated funds, with reports suggesting the total amount of embezzled money could be larger.
